A Scrap of Lyric

Lately, I have been listening to an Italian group called Premiata Forneria Marconi. I was a fan back in the late 70s, but once CDs came into vogue they were unavailable in the US. They recently became available on Rhapsody.

On one of their US released LPs Pete Sinfield wrote some lyrics for them. One I particularly liked started with the line:
Scraping his bow,the old violinist plays quite out of tune, blues on his fingers...

An image comes to mind of memories of past skills, past loves and current regret, all in one line. Poetry set to music is even more powerful than poetry alone. It is good in the modern age that we can enjoy so many combinations across cultures and appreciate them in our own languages.

Art is great.
