Writing Through the Muck

Recently, my writing has been bogged down on a few plot points. I don’t want to be predictable in my storyline, but I don’t want to get all kooky with it either. The characters are quick to rebel when they are pushed out of their comfort zones.

As an author it is good to push the limits in spite of the complaints of the characters. One can't let the characters rule the story to the point that it becomes dull. The reader wants to see the character under stress, wants to feel heat and see flying sparks.

I need to jettison these unworkable scenes and write past them. Target fixation is a problem, more so when the target is on the wrong side of the field. If I remind myself that my characters can be as tough as my imagination can make them then perhaps the muck will become a paved road that leads to a workable ending.
